Schedule:
This program begins with a morning educational session, including a presentation that explains the decline of coral reefs and the restoration efforts being made to address this issue. After the presentation, participants will engage in hands-on mock practice of underwater skills on land, learning restoration techniques for nursery maintenance and outplanting methodologies alongside the CRF™ Coral Crew. The program kicks in the morning at the Coral Restoration Foundation™ Exploration Center, located at 5 Seagate Boulevard in Key Largo.
As an added bonus, participants have the opportunity to earn the PADI AWARE Coral Conservation certification with Silent World Dive Center during this trip (though certification is not required to participate in the program). All certifications will be organized and processed directly through Silent World Dive Center.
The PADI AWARE Coral Conservation certification educates both divers and non-divers about the critical challenges facing the world’s coral reefs. The course covers the functioning of coral reefs, their vital role in the health of our oceans, and the reasons why many reefs are in serious decline. It also provides practical tips on how individuals can help protect and preserve these vital ecosystems.
The PADI AWARE Coral Conservation certification will be completed immediately after the CRF™ training at Silent World Dive Center. Dive check-in is at 12:15 PM at Silent World Dive Center, located at 51 Garden Cove Drive.
Afternoon dives may vary depending on the dive operator, diver experience, weather conditions, and the specific restoration tasks CRF™ needs completed that day. Restoration activities can include learning about the coral nursery, maintaining coral trees, outplanting new corals, monitoring coral growth, and exploring previously outplanted reefs.
