Indigo Dandelion Lee Mané’s journey towards supporting Coral Restoration Foundation™ (CRF™) is as vibrant and diverse as the reefs they’re passionate about preserving. Having a background in Tech and Finance, Dandelion is a jack of all trades, complimenting their work with a deep interest in self-expression, generative art, and fashion. For Dandelion, life is about living in authentic, meaningful, and insightful ways. This ethos, combined with a lifelong awareness of climate change, has shaped their path as a dedicated donor and advocate for coral restoration.
Dandelion’s commitment to coral reefs stems from a deep understanding of their ecological importance. Growing up in the 90s, they became acutely aware of the planet’s environmental challenges. “As I learned more about climate change, the impacts of ocean acidification, as well as temperature changes, I’ve been aware that corals have been under threat for a long time,” they shared. “Coral reefs are both keystone anchors of biodiversity but also what is possible for interrelated life.”
A Background Rooted in Art and Environmental Awareness
Environmental consciousness has always been intertwined with their creative spirit. “I fell particularly in the more art-oriented communities, such as the generative art world, which has a lot of care and a lot of heart,” they noted as they explained their current art project. “QQL Project is a generative algorithm (non-AI) that randomly and programmatically generates different artworks, which are all compositions of circles. Then, human collectors search through the millions of possibilities and choose which ones become canonicalized as official QQLs." For Dandelion, many pieces “have resonance with the theme of oceans or biodiversity or coral reefs."
“The relationship-forming moment for me was when I was going to give some crypto wealth to a biodiversity non-profit, and CRF™ was one of the two that I chose,” they explained.
In 2021, Dandelion invested in an NFT showing a generative mountain. Over time the NFT generated significant value. When they announced on Twitter that they would donate the proceeds to an environmental nonprofit, CRF™ was one of two organizations their community recommended repeatedly.
Their passion for the cause is further fueled by the emotional impact of witnessing these fragile ecosystems deteriorate. Dandelion’s most memorable interaction with coral began in Florida. "The first experience that stands out to me pretty vividly is coming to Florida a few years ago and visiting Coral Restoration Foundation™. At that point, I was already a donor and was already invested in coral, but I got the chance to do a snorkeling trip and witness all the diversity there," they recalled. “The capacity to witness something that is really precious being destroyed—the witnessing itself is very powerful,” they reflected.
Despite the daunting environmental challenges, Dandelion finds hope in the efforts from CRF™. Dandelion saw cryptocurrency as a unique opportunity to give back, choosing to direct some of their crypto assets to CRF™. “I feel like you guys are the tip of the spear in` terms of having a way for the energy and intention of hope and change to actually land somewhere,” they expressed. They recognized that by donating in this innovative way, they could maximize their impact, combining their experience in the Crypto-world with their commitment to environmental conservation. Dandelion hopes their choice will inspire others in the crypto community to consider this option for supporting causes like coral restoration.
Commitment to Coral Reefs
Dandelion’s commitment to coral reef conservation is a testament to their belief in the power of collective action and interconnected ecosystems. They see coral reefs not just as vibrant underwater worlds, but as a profound source of inspiration for how we can structure and support our own communities. “Coral reefs are almost an ideal I want us to be collectively inspired by and learn from,” Dandelion reflected. They believe that by supporting the efforts of CRF™, we can harness the resilience of these ancient ecosystems. For Dandelion, coral restoration is about more than just saving the reefs—it’s about cultivating a future where humanity and nature thrive together, interconnected, and interdependent, just like the coral reefs themselves.
